Founded in 1931, FAWCO is a non-partisan, not-for-profit corporation that serves as an umbrella network linking over 75 independent American and international volunteer organizations for citizens living overseas.
FAWCO serves as a resource and channel of information for its Member Clubs, contributes actively to the global community and represents the interests of Americans abroad. With a combined membership of over 15,000 individuals in more than 35 countries, FAWCO is represented in Africa, Asia, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East as well as North America and South America.
A recognized Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) since 1995, FAWCO was granted special consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the UN in 1997. ELEANOR ROOSEVELT AND THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
The year 2008 marks the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The anniversary celebration will be
officially launched on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2007 by the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights and will end on
December 10, 2008. Under CONGO's (Conference of NGOs with ECOSOC),NGO CSW (Committee on the Status of Women), a special task force to recognize Eleanor Roosevelt as the driving force behind the creation and adoption of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights
in 1948. The Task Force will spearhead an information and publicity campaign and a website.
FAWCO is pleased to be taking the initiative in creating, sponsoring and hosting a special Eleanor Roosevelt website for the international
and NGO community. The website is http://www.erooseveltudhr.org/. We urge everyone to join in this international effort to promote
worldwide recognition of Eleanor Roosevelt's leadership role and awareness for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
